Westwood School

The Westwood School achieved Technology status in 2005. As one of only two schools in Coventry with Technology status we are successfully using our status to continue to

  • Raise attainment across all subjects with high quality teaching and learning supported by technology including ICT.
  • Develop our curriculum to provide a range of vocational and traditional courses in science and technology and across all subjects for all ages including adults
  • Develop links with our community including local employers whose businesses use technology, science and engineering

Technology status has had a wide-ranging impact on the education service that we can offer.

Click on the tabs below to reveal how Technology status continues to benefit the school, our students and our community.

Our curriculum embraces new technologies, including ICT, to enhance learning opportunities for our students.

We have developed nationally acclaimed routes of study which are personalised for students on the basis of their individual abilities, aptitudes and ambitions.

Applied learning opportunities in the specialist subjects include Diplomas and BTECs which are offered alongside traditional courses such triple science.

High achievement in our core subjects of design and technology, science and mathematics is matched in all other subject areas; innovative ideas and approaches to learning are shared between departments and in collaboration with our partner schools as we push onwards to raise achievement for all pupils. We routinely visit local primary schools, secondary schools and other education and training organisations to share good practice and expertise.

Our curriculum is enriched with opportunities to develop skills for life and lifelong learning. Timetabled classes develop students’ team-building skills and resilience, provide opportunities for planning, problem-solving and reflection, encourage independent thinking and learning and build aptitude in communication and collaboration.
