Examples of how we engage parents/carers to support their children’s learning and well-being
In addition to our annual Parents Evening we also have, for example:
- tutor evenings for each Year Group;
- an early September meeting for parents of Year 7 pupils;
- all parents of Year 7 are invited into school on the first day of the autumn term to meet staff; reduce anxiety of their children (and themselves!). Known as our ‘Bring your Child to School’ programme;
- parents of Yr 9 and Yr 11 and are invited to an evening workshop to help their children to revise;
- parents/carers of gifted and talented pupils and target group pupils are invited to workshops to support and understand how to help their children;
- where additional resources are distributed parents are invited to receive and understand the use of those resources;
- in response to parental demand we have had several ‘Triple P Parenting Programmes’ running in the Youth Centre;
- the school has been involved in disseminating effective practice through the Specialist Schools Trust programme ‘Engaging Parents in Raising Achievement’;
- to support transition, parents of Yr 6 pupils and their children are invited into school for open mornings.
