THE WESTWOOD SCHOOL AWARDED CERTIFICATE TO MARK ACHIEVEMENT IN NEXT GENERATION LEARNING

The Westwood School in Coventry has been awarded a recognition certificate to mark the progress it has made within the Next Generation Learning Charter, the national standard indicating excellent use of ICT in learning and school management. The Westwood School is proud to be the only school in Coventry, not only to hold the BECTA ICT Accreditation mark, but now also to gain this award for their outstanding use of ICT.

The Next Generation Learning Charter was launched by Becta, the government’s agency for technology in education, to help improve the strategic and effective use of technology in schools across the country.

This recognition certificate means The Westwood School is leading the way and is committed to improving learning for pupils through the use of technology (including computers, mobile devices – including mobile phones and MP3 players) in lessons.

There is strong evidence to show that when technology is used effectively in schools, it can help to motivate and excite pupils, and raise attainment.

Mike Briscoe, Director of Institutions, Leadership and Safeguarding at Becta, said:

“Not only is The Westwood School committed to using ICT across all school activities to benefit and enhance pupils’ learning but this certificate recognises that the school is always looking to improve what they are doing. The Next Generation Learning Charter recognises schools like The Westwood School that make the best use of ICT in a structured and more strategic way.”

Tony Stephens, Assistant Head teacher, The Westwood School said,

“We are delighted to have been recognised for our award in ICT excellence. It is a brilliant way for us to show pupils, parents and the wider community that we are committed to using ICT in the best way we can. We are committed to continuing to improve our use of ICT.  As the only school in Coventry to gain this recognition we are showing that, here at The Westwood School, we are leading the way in Coventry when it comes to innovative and engaging ways to use ICT both within the classroom and to involve parents in their child’s education.”
